Mario’s Lifelong Commitment to His Community

Mario earned the nickname “Pollito” in his early adulthood, a name that stuck because of his youthful good looks. But beyond the nickname lies a man whose life has been defined by service. He spent many years working in law enforcement, often handling difficult and traumatic situations. Despite the challenges, Mario remained committed to protecting his community and ensuring safety for all.

His dedication extended beyond policing. Mario also worked as a teacher in the United States, showing his belief in education as a tool for change. Returning to Guatemala, he continued to support his community by maintaining local roads, mentoring young people, and running a small family store that serves as a gathering place and resource for neighbors.

The Unfair Medical Burden Mario Faces

Years ago, Mario underwent a surgery based on a diagnosis that later proved to be false. This fraudulent medical decision has left him with ongoing health problems, including severe gout. The condition causes him constant pain and limits his mobility, making everyday tasks difficult.

The financial burden of this unjust medical treatment weighs heavily on Mario and his family. The cost of the surgery and ongoing care has created debt that Mario cannot manage alone. This situation threatens not only his health but also his ability to continue supporting his community.

Mario’s Dream for His Community

Despite his health struggles, Mario shares in our vision of building an open-air auditorium near his home. This space would provide a safe and welcoming place for community and faith-based events and children’s activities. It would strengthen social bonds and offer opportunities for education and recreation.

So that he can focus solely on this mission, Mario first needs help to clear his unfair medical debt and afford the treatment that will improve his quality of life. Supporting Mario means investing in a leader who has given so much to others and who continues to inspire hope in Chiquimula.
